First things first
Be prepared. Know what you want or at least have a pretty good idea. For ideas check out this page. Once you have a good idea of what you want (this could include sketches, pictures, magazine cutouts, or better yet one of my ideas :) ) fill out this questionnaire and then move on to the next step.

What can I expect next?

Once the above three steps are completed, that is when the fun begins. First, I will review the answers to your questionnaire you filled out. I will then either visit your building site in person or study your site and surrounding area via Google Earth. I will then contact you with any further questions that I may have.

Preliminary Design Phase: Once I can visualize your project I go to work creating your computerized 3D model. The first go round will most likely include a basic massing model, space layout and/or a simple floor plan for your approval. This is done via your very own client page on thedrawingboardstudio.com. When you determine that I am headed in the right direction, through feedback either in person, by phone, chat or email, I add more specific details including, with the use Google SketchUp Pro and Google Earth, precisely placing your home in its true orientation to perform basic sun studies of your project and then again receive your feedback. This preliminary design process will go back and forth until you are completely satisfied with your Custom Design. Any work beyond 5 revisions may be subject to additional charges billed hourly.

Construction Document Phase: Once written design approval is received, I begin work on your Construction Documents. These are the necessary documents you will need for building permits, bid preparation and finally construction. These documents will print on 36″ x 24″ paper and will be printed to scale. These drawings may include: Exterior Elevation drawings, Foundation drawings, Floor Plan layouts, Electrical layouts, Roof and Floor Framing layouts, Cross Sections, Notes, Specific Details and a Site Plan.
Also if necessary I will contact the local building department/governing body for specific items they may require to help ensure building permit approval.
Any design changes made by client during this phase are subject to additional charges billed hourly.
I can also work with a Structural Engineer who will sign and wet stamp the Final Construction Documents specific for your state. [Engineer signature and wet stamp are not available for Alaska, California, Illinois, Nevada or International clients.]
